The Birdpatch is a small-scale, pre-order based patch and sticker shop. I've tried selling art previously and always had a bad time, but figured there might be a different way to give it a go without killing the spirit that gave me joy in making things.

It's also an attempt to bring a bit of "web 1.0" back, even if it's in a small way. No ads, slow commerce. I think there's a real place for that.

So, this is a different way of making neat stuff without the stress of managing a bunch of unsold inventory. All patches and stickers will be produced and shipped only if a minimum preorder goal is reached. This is to make production and shipping affordable. If any design doesn't meet its goal within two weeks, I'll refund any preorders and move on to the next design. This means you either get a neat patch/sticker or you get your money back. All designs have a minimum cost to order, but if you can afford to pop in a bit more (and would like to pay a bit extra as a tip) that will help reach the goal faster.

This also means that turnaround will be long and there is no guarantee that any given design will make it. I choose to look at the slow pace as a feature, not a bug. I want to keep this fun and interesting for me and also as low-stress as possible. The primary goal is getting fun designs printed and shipped to people who will enjoy them, not making a profit.

I'm also very picky about quality and would rather go through vetted vendors than sticking designs on an automated site that puts every design on every product. I will also take every effort to make the source files color- and detail-appropriate for the medium.

The Process

Every project has its own page with details laid out like so:

• Style: this describes the type of item, e.g patch or sticker

• Dimensions: the size of the end product

• Minimum Cost: minimum payment needed to preorder the item

• Total needed for order: total amount of money that needs to be raised in order to produce and ship the item, and the quantity that will be ordered.

• Shipping Estimate: estimated time to receive your preorder as of the time the order goal is met.

• Deadline: the date by which the project must be funded to stay up.

How to Preorder

• Place a payment through the store page for each item.

• Each item is listed with a minimum cost to purchase. As I am a poor bird, however, any payment above that will be absolutely welcome and will help reach the goal faster. All orders are equal with regard to shipping and fulfillment, so no worries if you don't want to pay more than the minimum.

• If the goal is met, you will receive a notification of success and another when the item is shipped.

• If the goal is not met by deadline, I'll return every preorder in full.
